DIOCESE OF ST. PETERSBURG FL

Accused Priests: 14 (of which accusations against 2 "were found to be false," an accusation against another "could not be proved," and an accusation against a fourth was denied, but the priest chose to resign from ministry)
Total Priests: "About" 4,000
Abuse Claims: 10 (from Grossman/AP table)
Cost: $1,061,000 (of which $750,000 in settlements, $118,000 in counseling for victims and their families, and $193,000 in legal fees, prevention, and staff)
Data since establishment of the diocese in 1968.

See Cathy Lynn Grossman, Survey: More Clergy Abuse Cases Than Previously Thought (2/10/04) with AP table of data for 74 dioceses.

See letter by Bishop Robert N. Lynch.

See the Dallas Morning News database entry on Bishop Robert Lynch. The June 2002 database examined the records of bishops and identified those who had allowed accused priests to continue working or had otherwise protected priests accused of sexual abuse. The database is relevant to the bishops' "Nature and Scope" study because the bishops who prepared the surveys for the study are in many cases responsible for the "scope" of the problem.
