An Irish bishop who resigned in 1992 after admitting to an affair with an American woman has been hit with a new charge of sexual misconduct.

Bishop Eamon Casey, who is now living in retirement at the age of 88, is the defendant in one of four cases brought against former priests of the Limerick diocese. The charges against the bishop have been entered by a Limerick woman.

Bishop Casey was charged with sexual abuse in another complaint lodged in 2005. In that case, Irish prosecutors soon dismissed the charges, noting that there was no evidence of abuse and that the woman who accused the bishop had made previous false accusations.
